COURSE OVERVIEW

Participants will develop clinical clarity around how narcissistic traits shape identity, attachment, and emotional regulation across the lifespan.

The course examines:

  • Narcissistic parenting patterns

  • Family role distortion (golden child, scapegoat, lost child)

  • Identity fragmentation and chronic self-blame

  • The narcissistic abuse cycle in romantic relationships

  • Idealization–devaluation–discard dynamics

  • Trauma bonding and intermittent reinforcement

  • Coparenting challenges with narcissistic ex-partners

This training provides clinicians with a structured, trauma-informed framework for assessment and treatment planning.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this Narcissist Parent CEU and Narcissistic Abuse Cycle CE, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify narcissistic patterns within family systems and parental dynamics.

  2. Describe common family roles and associated psychological wounds.

  3. Define the narcissistic abuse cycle in intimate partner relationships.

  4. Differentiate narcissistic abuse from general relational dysfunction.

  5. Develop trauma-informed treatment plans for survivors of parental and spousal narcissistic abuse.

  6. Apply identity recovery and boundary development strategies in clinical practice.

 

Narcissistic Parenting & Family System Dynamics

As part of this Narcissist Parent CEU, participants will explore:

  • How narcissistic individuals operate within parental roles

  • Emotional enmeshment, favoritism, and scapegoating

  • Role conditioning and identity distortion

  • Long-term psychological impact on children

  • Developmental and environmental contributors to narcissistic traits

Narcissistic Parenting & Family System Dynamics

Treatment focus includes:

  • Psychoeducation on narcissistic dynamics

  • Identity recovery and self-definition

  • Boundary development and limit-setting

  • Reality validation

  • Trauma reprocessing approaches (EMDR, somatic integration, parts work)

The Narcissistic Abuse Cycle in Intimate Relationships

This course also functions as a Narcissistic Abuse Cycle CE, focusing on the relational trauma experienced in dating and marital partnerships.

Participants will examine:

  • Cycles of idealization, devaluation, and emotional destabilization

  • Gaslighting, hoovering, triangulation, and control tactics

  • Emotional dependency and trauma bonding

  • Chronic self-doubt and identity erosion

  • Attachment injuries resulting from prolonged manipulation

The Narcissistic Abuse Cycle in Intimate Relationships

Clinical attention will also be given to:

  • Coparenting with a narcissistic ex-partner

  • Boundary violations and emotional triangulation involving children

  • Navigating therapy when the narcissistic partner remains involved

Marielle is a practicing therapist in the Lafayette area with over 12 years experience. She specializes in treating various presentations of anxiety, phobias, perfectionism, panic, OCD, as well as PTSD and CPTSD. She utilizes evidence based behavioral approaches such as CBT, ACT and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as well as a variety of trauma reprocessing therapies including EMDR, Image Transformation Therapy (IMTT), and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). She incorporates Structural Dissociation Theory and parts work in the EMDR process to address symptoms of dissociation stemming from CPTSD. She is especially passionate about helping clients establish healthy boundaries in their lives through CBT techniques and incorporating attachment based approaches when addressing relationship concerns.

Brynne is a practicing therapist in the Lafayette, LA area with over 10 years of experience. She specializes in treating life threatening and quality of life interfering behaviors predominately with teens and young adults who meet criteria and features of personality disorders specifically Borderline Personality Disorder which co-occur with depression, anxiety, social phobias, attention and impulsive concerns, and trauma typically complex trauma (diagnoses typically include MDD, GAD, OCD, PTSD, CPTSD, ADHD). Additionally she is a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Therapist who supports parents during and after pregnancy. She predominantly provides a skills based approach by infusing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She is also trained in Deep Brain Reorienting for the treatment of trauma and shock.
